Sustainable Design Engineering

This module started with a group research submission. The team was tasked with redesigning a plane seat to be more sustainable. Using tools such as eco-audits, material circularity analysis and flow mappers, we discovered where current products needed improvement which we took forward into individual work.

The second half of the project kicked off with a fast-paced design sprint. I was then shortlisted to present to judges from JPA design, an aerospace interior design company. I presented with this short set of slides thrown together in 10 minutes.

From then on we had individual weekly submissions which formed the final portfolio below, these focused on an initial idea, primary and secondary structures and, accessories. Each week we came together as a group to converge our previous weeks work, to then continue working individually. This explains any incoherency in the portfolio.

The final submission was a week long group portfolio combining all our ideas, presenting our solution and evaluating it’s environmental impact.
